PICKENS COUNTY, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - The School District of Pickens County named its teacher of the year for the upcoming school year on Tuesday.

Elizabeth Gunnels, a fifth-grade teacher at Liberty Elementary School, is Teacher of the Year for 2025-26.

Gunnels is one of four finalists for the award.

Superintendent Dr. Danny Merck said, “Mrs. Gunnels represents the very best of SDPC. Her ability to combine high expectations with deep care for her students makes a lasting impact. She is a shining example of how great teaching transforms lives.”

The following teachers were also finalists for Teacher of the Year:

Lindsey Douglas, Daniel High School

Cullen Finley, Clemson Elementary

Shannon Wood, Easley High School
