SALT LAKE CITY — The mission president for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has been released from a hospital in Mexico City, just four days after he was shot by an intruder .

Church spokesperson Sam Penrod confirmed Wednesday that President R. Tyler Wallis, 56, is out of the hospital and continuing to recuperate from his injuries.

The incident occurred around 2 a.m. Saturday morning, when an intruder broke into the mission home during what police believe was an attempted robbery. Wallis was shot once and was taken to an intermediate care unit in Mexico City, where he was in stable condition and responding well to treatment. His wife, Elizabeth Wallis, was also in the home but was not injured by the intruder.
