WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) - A Jamaican citizen living in Winthrop was sentenced in federal court on drug charges on Wednesday.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office said 61-year-old Leon Byrd, who’s also known as Paul Edwards, was sentenced to time served.
Officials said he had already been held for 26 months in connection with the distribution and possession of approximately 1.8 kilograms of cocaine and 29 grams of methamphetamine.
Prosecutors said that Byrd, as part of his guilty plea, admitted that from September 2022 through June 2023, he worked with a drug trafficking organization that trafficked cocaine from New York City and methamphetamine from California to the Winthrop area of St. Lawrence County.
