UTICA, New York (WWNY) - A 42-year-old Potsdam man is going to prison for sexual exploitation of a child and receipt and possession of child pornography.

Jerod Schaffer was sentenced in federal court to 25 years behind bars.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said that Schaffer, a convicted sex offender, admitted that in November of 2021, he met a 14-year-old girl on a social media site and began requesting and receiving sexually explicit images from her.

In early 2022, prosecutors said Schaffer traveled from New York to Ohio, where he engaged in sexual conduct with the child on multiple occasions and recorded it.

Officials said law enforcement searched his home in May 2022 and found dozens of sexually explicit files depicting the victim.
