SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - WNIT, the PBS station serving the Michiana region, is laying off 25 percent of its workforce.
This comes after they lost over $1 million in funding from federal and state governments.
WNDU 16 News Now talked to the president of WNIT Wednesday about the possible impacts of this layoff on the company and on our community.
It looks like the looming threat to the public media is turning into a reality.
President Amanda Miller Kelley says the station has laid off approximately 25 percent of its workforce.
We asked her why she had to make this hard decision.
“None of this was done by choice. None of these were the people we would willingly separate from,” said President Kelley.
She expressed sadness after making the decision to lay off a quarter of WNIT’s workfor
