DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - The Decatur Club announced Wednesday that its doors are closed effective immediately. The historic landmark has been in the community for over 125 years, and many community members have an emotional connection to it. "It has such a rich history of major events and celebrations and weddings and announcements, plus some really, really important meetings have happened over the years there. It's just been a mainstay, and it's such a part of our roots," said Mayor Julia Moore Wolfe. At one point in time, Wolfe served on the Club's board. Though the city may be grieving the closure, Wolfe is optimistic that the space will stay in the Decatur family because it has enormous potential.
