A fire that started on the second floor of a Temecula residence caused significant damage Wednesday, displacing a family of five and killing their cat.
The blaze was reported at 3:55 p.m. in the 31000 block of Pauba Road, near Margarita Road, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said multiple engine and ladder crews were sent to the location and encountered flames burning on the top floor of the two-story house, extending into the attic.
Fire Capt. John Clingingsmith told City News Service that all of the occupants escaped unharmed, except for the pet.
Crews contained the fire by 4:35 p.m. and completely extinguished it roughly 20 minutes later.
