NEW LONDON, Conn. (WTNH) — Block Island Express, the ferry that takes passengers between New London and Block Island in Rhode Island, has announced the cancellation of its service for the rest of the week.

According to the Block Island Express website, all departures scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 21 and Friday, Aug. 22 have been cancelled due to weather and sea conditions. The 4:45 p.m. departure from New London and the 6:30 p.m. departure from Block Island for Wednesday were also cancelled.

According to the National Weather Service, Hurricane Erin is expected to bring life-threatening surf and rip currents to much of the East Coast over the next several days. More information about Erin and upcoming weather conditions in Connecticut can be found here.
