ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - Todd Gilbert will no longer be serving as the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Virginia.

A spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney’s Office confirmed that Gilbert resigned as of 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Gilbert was sworn in to the U.S. Attorney position on July 14, 2025.

Gilbert had previously served in the Virginia House of Delegates for nearly 20 years and had served as the 57th Speaker of the House from 2022-2024.

The First Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert Tracci has assumed the role of Acting U.S. Attorney, spokesperson Brian McGinn said.
