EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEVV) — Evansville Police Department is urging residents to be cautious of fraud involving card skimming and card cloning, particularly for those relying on SNAP benefits.

"Physically what they can do is inspect the machine and I'm not saying take it off the counter and go through it but a lot of these scamming devices are very apparent," Sgt. Anthony Aussieker said. "So if it looks like the machine has been tampered with, don't use it," said Aussieker.

EPD advises that newer cards with a tap feature offer a safer way to make transactions.

"If your EBT card has a tap feature, utilize that," said Aussieker.

Aussieker also emphasized the importance of locking and unlocking EBT accounts.
