LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- Clark County Commissioners approved a plan this week to build a new animal shelter in an effort to free up space at the Animal Foundation and help save more pets' lives.

"It's going to be a lot more dogs' lives are saved," Bryce Henderson, President of No Kill Las Vegas, said.

The news was welcomed among Southern Nevada animal rescue advocates during what many have called a crisis.

For two decades, The Animal Foundation has been the only publicly funded shelter for Las Vegas, Clark County, and North Las Vegas.

Since then, Southern Nevada has nearly doubled in size, leaving the shelter and other subsequent rescues and facilities struggling to keep up with the demand.
