MONTGOMERY, Ala. ( WSFA ) - Alabama voters are getting ready to make their voices heard as they head to the polls to cast ballots in more than 140 municipalities across the state!

Alabama’s municipal elections will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 26.

Alabama Sec. of State Wes Allen says he’s confident in city clerks and councils who will be carrying out next week’s elections.

“It is so important of who you elect in your cities, in your towns, in your municipalities,” he said.

For the first time, many Alabama municipalities are having their local elections in off years, or years without a presidential or gubernatorial election.

In 2021, a state Senate bill drove to change that, citing poll worker and voter fatigue, which is something Sec. Allen said is understandable.
