SAVANNAH — International Paper announced Aug. 21 that it is permanently shuttering its packaging facility in Savannah as well as other operations in southeastern Georgia.
In all, the closures will impact about 1,100 jobs, the company announced in what it called "strategic changes" to its North America Packaging Solutions business.
"International Paper is committed to supporting affected employees through this transition," the official statement said. "The company will offer severance packages, along with outplacement assistance for eligible employees, to support them during this transition."
