MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - The Memphis Police Department is investigating a shooting that took place on Wednesday evening.

At 3:29 p.m., MPD responded to a shooting scene at 3215 South Third Street, Station 36 of the Memphis Fire Department.

According to MPD, the mother of the 12-year-old victim, later identified as Latoya Wallace, initially told police that the child was shot while walking into a grocery store with his mother.

The boy was transported to the hospital in non-critical condition.

Upon further investigation, officers learned that there were inconsistencies in the mother’s story and that he was actually shot in a different location.

Wallace is now facing charges for false reporting.
