ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The City of Rochester saw an 8% decrease in gun violence, according to Governor Kathy Hochul.

Hochul said that communities that participated in the Gun Involved Violence Elimination (GIVE) initiative saw shooting incidents drop 14%. According to the NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services, there was also a 21% decrease in shooting deaths.

With that said, Rochester saw the lowest decline in gun violence compared to other cities. Hochul reported Albany saw the biggest drop at 53%, followed by Buffalo at 25%, and Syracuse at 10%.

Last month, Mayor Evans addressed the decline in crime by saying that they still have a lot of work to do to continue driving those numbers down, particularly with shootings.
