ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A man accused of raping a child in Newark was arrested in Gainesville, Florida.

The Newark Police Department said they began the investigation after Child Protective Services received a phone call in 2021.

According to investigators, 43-year-old Daniel Shaffer was physically abusive to an adult and a child. It was alleged that Shaffer raped the child, who was younger than 13 years old, over several years.

Officers said Shaffer moved to Florida, which led to a grand jury indictment and a warrant being issued for his arrest. Police in Gainesville, Florida, arrested him on unrelated charges, and he was turned over to the Newark Police Department.
