CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WSMV) - A large home just outside Chattanooga sustained heavy damage after it was reportedly struck by lightning during Wednesday’s storms.

According to the Chattanooga Fire Department, companies from its Red Shift responded to 1649 Kamin Road in the Hixson area a little before 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

They arrived and found visible smoke coming from the attic of the large home and immediately entered through the front for an inside attack on the flames.

This approach had to be abandoned, according to the Chattanooga FD, due to the roof beginning to collapse. Firefighters attempted to attack again from another angle, but the roof continued to fail, so they exited the home and called in additional personnel.
