HELENA — Jake Jeske sprinted free, outside the reach of a diving Denavion Ali, 30 yards to pay dirt in a good-on-good simulated overtime session concluding Carroll College’s preseason scrimmage Saturday.
Jeske, a redshirt sophomore who attended the same Washington high school as hardwood All-American Christine Denny, spent his summer auditioning for carries vacated by running backs Xzavier Ford and Peter Minnaert still recovering from last season knee injuries.
“Second down,” Jeske said of his scoring scamper. “We were drawing up a little counter. I was just planning to wait for the O-line to come through.
“They kicked the guy out perfectly, hole opened up. All I had to beat were the safeties to the left and right.”
