LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - With food insecurity on the rise in Southwest Louisiana, a group of volunteers is stepping up to make sure families don’t go hungry.

Five community members known as “Team Captains” are leading fundraising efforts for Second Harvest Food Bank in Lake Charles. Each captain has committed their own time, resources, and creativity to bring in donations at a time when the food bank is struggling.

“All of the team captains are going to come up with their own ways to raise money for Second Harvest Food Bank,” said Juliet Hayes. “Whether that is an event being held in the community or making it as easy as possible for people to donate money and food.”
