KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) - As the school year is underway for many in our region, Kanawha County Schools is making more security upgrades for their students.

“We are going to do to whatever means to make sure our students are safe and that our parents can trust us with the safety,” Superintendent Dr. Paula Potter said.

During Thursday’s Board of Education meeting, the board approved $262,944.48 to improve their school mapping system. They made the upgrades due to West Virginia House Bill 3166.

Security Director Bryan Carper said it will enhance first responders’ situational awareness and improve response times during an emergency.

“Having access to the maps just a couple seconds will a save a life,” Carper said.
