Santa Fe city councilors are divided over questions that will appear on city voters' ballots in November, asking for approval to roll back some of the mayor's powers.
Several councilors and Mayor Alan Webber have indicated they would support a proposal to convene a new Charter Review Commission to take a broad look at Santa Fe's "strong mayor" system and consider changes, largely in response to concerns about a lopsided balance of power favoring the mayor. The effort would come just two years after the council rejected most charter change recommendations from a previous commission.
