COLUMBIA, S.C. — Scattered to widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected today and Saturday, bringing the potential for heavy rain and localized flash flooding.
A flood watch is in effect through Saturday night. The watch was extended late Friday morning to include more counties in the Midlands.
Flooding caused by excessive rainfall remains possible across portions of central South Carolina through late Saturday night. Counties under the flood watch include Calhoun, Clarendon, Lexington, Newberry, Richland, Saluda, and Sumter. Excessive runoff could lead to flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying or flood-prone locations, with the potential for creeks and streams to rise out of their banks.
