SUMTER, S.C. — The Sumter County School District (SSD) has released the terms of its settlement agreement with n ow-former Superintendent Dr. William Wright .

The district said Dr. Wright had asked to be released from his contract and offered to resign during a school board meeting on August 14, 2025, just a week after students returned to district schools. The school board accepted his resignation that evening, with his resignation in effect the next day.

According to the official settlement agreement, in exchange for his resignation and additional agreements, Dr. Wright will be paid his remaining base salary for the 2025-2026 school year, plus any unused vacation and/or annual/sick leave at his current daily rate of pay -- a total of $220,272.26.
