CHICAGO — A Chicago man will spend more than 15 years in federal prison for illegally selling more than a dozen guns to an FBI informant.
Johnathan Burgos, a 33-year-old Chicago resident, has been sentenced to 16 years and eight months in federal prison, Andrew Boutros, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, announced Thursday.
In 2020 and 2021, Burgos illegally sold 14 firearms and multiple large-capacity magazines to an individual who was working on behalf of the FBI, Boutros said.
Prosecutors said the sales included several stolen handguns, a gun with a defaced serial number, and a rifle.
During most of the sales, prosecutors said Burgos was on either parole or bond with electronic monitoring stemming from firearm cases in state court.
