RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - The Bureau of Land Management will be using sheep to help with fire management in the Washoe Valley.
The sheep will reduce noxious and invasive weeds at Winters Ranch now through Oct. 31.
Around 1,200 sheep will be used to compliment previously completed herbicide applications.
Sheep dogs will be used to protect the sheep, and dog walkers are asked to keep their pets on leashes at all times around the sheep.
“Reduction of noxious and invasive weeds is an important component of meadow management, especially in the wildland urban interface where Winters Ranch is located, which is more susceptible for wildfires and non-native species establishment,” said Kimberly Dow, Carson City District Manager. “UNR has been a great partner, and I look forward to continuing working
