On Thursday afternoon at approximately 2:20 PM, a fixed wing single engine plane made a successful emergency landing on the southern end of Black Beach after running out of fuel mid-flight.
In a Facebook post from the Falmouth Fire/Rescue account, the pilot reported fuel consumption of the aircraft was "severely impacted” by headwinds. The pilot was traveling from Western Massachusetts, heading to the Falmouth Airpark in East Falmouth. The pilot was the only one on board.
The aircraft landed safely, with no reported damage or injuries to the pilot and the beach was clear of beach goers, the Facebook post stated.
Falmouth Fire Rescue personnel and Falmouth Police Department were both on the scene. The Federal Aviation Administration was consulted on the matter, before the plane was clear
