CHARLESTON (WV News) — A representative of Gov. Patrick Morrisey’s office defended the decision to send members of the West Virginia National Guard to Washington, saying it was done “at the request of the president.”

The West Virginia Citizen Action Group, represented by attorneys with the American Civil Liberties Union, filed a suit Thursday alleging Morrisey improperly ordered WVNG members to Washington to provide assistance to the “D.C. Safe and Beautiful” mission.

Drew Galang, Morrisey’s deputy press secretary, said deploying WVNG members was authorized under federal law.
