Evergreen Public Schools’ classified workers voted Thursday to strike Tuesday, the first day of school for the district.
Members of the Evergreen Chapter of Public School Employees of Washington SEIU Local 1948 rallied in front of the district office on Wednesday , saying they’re seeking a fair contract and livable wages.
The vote followed mediations with the district Wednesday, which didn’t result in an agreement on a contract, according Thursday news release from the union.
Classified staff include paraeducators, bus drivers, maintenance staff and mechanics.
Unless an agreement is made before Tuesday, the strike will take place, making history as the first for the union, according to the news release.
More information from the district will be provided later today.
