New Jersey’s high schools rank third best in the nation, according to new data released by U.S. News and World Report this week.
Nationwide, 18,000 publicly funded high schools were ranked. Schools with less than 15 students in the 12th grade were not included in the data.
The rankings were based on several factors, with participation in Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate courses and the number of students achieving a three or better on either test accounting for 40% of a school’s score.
Graduation rates and state test scores account for 30% of U.S. News’ system. The rankings also measure a school’s ability to support the learning of low-income, Black and Latino students, which accounts for the final 10% of a school’s score.
