KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI — Part of U.S. 131 is closing for the third and final consecutive weekend as crews install a new bridge over the highway.
Northbound U.S. 131 will close just before the U.S. 131 business route interchange at 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22 through 6 a.m. Monday, Aug. 25.
The closures are part of a $19 million Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) interchange expansion project that will reconfigure the Business Route interchange with two new ramps.
Bridge installation is on schedule, said MDOT spokesperson Nick Schirripa this week.
The same area has closed the last two weekends, Aug. 8 to 11 and 15 to 17.
More total closures are expected for the project later in the season. Upcoming closure dates are not available yet, Schirripa said.
