NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - A Riverside Village investor has been sentenced in federal court for wire fraud.

Dwayne Davis was indicted by a federal grand jury more than a year ago in connection with a scheme to defraud his business partner, Government Employees Insurance Co., also known as GEICO, of more than $5 million.

Prosecutors say Kim Brown fabricated income for clients, claimed fake deductions to boost the refund, and charged a fee based on the refund.

He was sentenced to 29 months in federal prison, according to court documents filed this week. The court recommended that he be held in Pensacola, Fla.

After release from prison, he’ll face three years of supervised release.
