WASHINGTON, N.C. (WITN) - An Eastern Carolina city’s electric system is getting national attention.

The City of Washington has received a 2024 Public Power Award of Excellence. It was one of twenty-three other providers in North Carolina to have been given this award.

According to the release, this award recognizes a provider with innovations in mind, a strong energy grid, and a priority to their population as their greatest asset.

“I am overjoyed to celebrate our local utility professionals who are the true recipients of this award,” said City Manager Jonathan Russell. “This recognition reflects their unwavering commitment to providing value to customers through reliable, affordable, and sustainable electric power.”
