LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Following Governor Jim Pillen’s announcement that McCook’s Work Ethic Camp will be converted into a federal immigration detention facility, Bishop James D. Conley of the Diocese of Lincoln is calling for compassion, dignity, and meaningful immigration reform.
Bishop Conley noted the Catholic Diocese’s long-standing relationship with the Work Ethic Camp, where priests have celebrated Mass and provided weekly pastoral care for those incarcerated. He stressed that this same access to spiritual support must be made available for anyone held in the new federal facility.
“It will be of utmost importance that any person detained in the federal immigration detention center in McCook can also access regular and ongoing pastoral care,” Bishop Conley said. “This is fundamenta
