TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - The previously deported felon facing two trials for last month’s southside crime spree pleaded not guilty in federal court Friday morning.

The start of his state trial is uncertain, and the Pima County Attorney is suing for access to Julio Cesar Aguirre.

Aguirre’s presence was waived Friday morning as he pleaded not guilty through his lead attorney, federal public defender Leo Masursky.

Masursky is no stranger to high-profile cases. He defended Murad Dervish last year, who was convicted of the shooting death of University of Arizona professor Dr. Thomas Meixner.

Members of the Mexican consulate were also at Aguirre’s arraignment because he is a Mexican national. Aguirre is a deported felon facing five federal charges, and two of them are for the death
