COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - The annual Heritage Bowl football game, held on Friday night in Columbus, drew large crowds supporting both Spencer and Carver High Schools.

In preparation for the big rivalry game in Columbus, alumni of both schools kicked off tailgating on Friday morning. The event is a way for fans, students, and faculty to have friendly competition and socialization but also to reflect on the history and legacy between the schools.

“Spencer is actually the first fully accredited high school for African American students, Carver is the second,” said Rosa Patterson, Spencer High School principal.
