OGUNQUIT, Maine — Ogunquit beach is closed to swimming as dangerous surf builds along the coast.

The Ogunquit Fire Department said lifeguards were off duty Friday evening and posted double red flags, meaning the water is closed. Officials warned that entering the surf could cause serious injury or death.

Waves are expected to peak overnight and become even stronger on Saturday. A “no water entry” rule will be strictly enforced until conditions improve.
