MEMPHIS, Tenn. - This week, the University of Memphis announced sweeping changes to comply with a state law banning diversity, equity and inclusion, better known as DEI. The state law, named the “Dismantling DEI Departments Act,” refers to such programs as “discriminatory preference” and requires all public institutions, including governments and colleges, to dismantle them. One of the first and biggest parts of the U of M’s anti-DEI measures was shutting down the Office of Multicultural Affairs. The closure came less than 24 hours after a college-wide email sent out by university president Bill Hardgrave Thursday afternoon. “I feel disappointed and sad.
