SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - Saturday is a First Alert Weather Day with widespread thunderstorms. We have potential for some heavy downpours and dangerous lightning.

Friday rainfall included 0.08” at SRQ, bringing the August total to 5.52”, which is almost an inch below average. We have the potential to make up that deficit over the weekend.

A cold front is stalled in northern Florida for the weekend. Onshore winds will draw in plenty of tropical moisture to the Suncoast, leading to scattered showers and thunderstorms each day, morning and afternoon. A Southwest winds also increases the chance for rip currents along our coasts. Our highs will also hold in the 80s with onshore winds, as water temps at the beaches are mainly in the upper 80s.
