Anna Sosnowski thought the lump she felt while breastfeeding was odd, but this wasn’t her first lactation rodeo. She’d successfully fed two babies before this, her third, and a bit of lumpiness, she figured, had to be related to milk and ducts and feeding.

“Your first thought is, ‘I’m only 34. This can’t be breast cancer.’ Being a nurse, I should have known something about it, but I didn’t,” said Sosnowski, who is Day of Hope 2025 Ambassador for Arroyo Grande.

Fortunately, she didn’t keep it to herself. She mentioned it to her sister, Leah Parlato, also a nurse, who pushed her to get it checked. Still, she waited another six months. Surely, it was nothing.

“I pushed it to the back of my mind as something I’d deal with later, especially with other kids to take care of,” Sosnowski said.
