JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — East Tennessee State University (ETSU) unveiled a new 1,000-pound bronze statue of its mascot, Bucky, to commemorate his birthday Saturday.
ETSU President Noland said the statue is 8 feet tall and is officially a new campus landmark.
ETSU said the statue was made possible through an anonymous gift and marks the end of the university's second phase of improvements to the Jack Vest Dr. and S Dossett Dr. intersection that leads to William B. Greene Jr. Stadium.
"This statue is more than a tribute to our mascot--it is a lasting symbol of Buccaneer pride," President Noland said in a release. "It captures the spirit, tradition and pride that define the ETSU experience."
