The final preseason tune-up for the Detroit Lions is here, a Saturday showdown with the Houston Texans at Ford Field, slated for 1 p.m.
And being the final preseason contest, it’s the last major opportunity for players on the fringe of the 53-man roster to solidify a spot. As such, Saturday’s contest won’t feature starters for Detroit, as the first teamers will be rested for the season opener.
Most prominent Saturday will be the quarterbacks, as Kyle Allen has a chance to erase any lingering thoughts that he shouldn’t be the backup quarterback. He’s so far outplayed third-year quarterback Hendon Hooker this preseason as the Lions let the two compete for the backup role.
And with the Lions roster in a generally strong place as far as starters are concerned, most of the roster spots u
