Early Saturday morning, a crowd gathered to watch a tribute to fallen firefighter Ray Moreau.

“This will allow us to have some fellowship back at the firehouse,” said hot air balloon pilot Santo Galatioto. “We renew out friendships and we mourn some that have passed .”

Moreau, who was a volunteer firefighter in Plainville, died last month while responding to a house fire. He was 60 years old.

“It was kind of emotional,” said Rob Goldman. “I guess there were several firemen that were around us that were crying and made me cry. It was quite a tribute, very emotional.”

The ballon carried an American flag as it floated into the sky during the Plainville Fire Company’s Hot Air Balloon Festival.
