STONINGTON, Conn. — Rough surf is impacting parts of the shoreline as Hurricane Erin continues to move away from the Northeast, which may compromise that one last beach day this weekend before the school year starts.

Waves along the Connecticut shoreline reached up to six feet high in Stonington as Erin made its final push past the East Coast. While the water may be tempting for surfers or boogie boarders, folks here in Stonington said they're keeping their distance from this rough surf.

“Right now it's quite relaxing. It's kind of nice we're here playing on the beach with our little son. Kind of enjoying the gentle waves coming through,” Said Chris Moyer, while on vacation with his family from New York.
