PLAINFIELD TWP., MI -- Kent County police are responding to an armed, barricaded subject in Plainfield Township.

Police asked residents to avoid Balsam Avenue and Holtman Drive in Plainfield Township around 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 23, due to a barricaded subject in the area, according to a release from the Kent County Sheriff’s Office. Plainfield Township is just north of Grand Rapids.

The subject is believed to be armed.

Police were responding to a domestic assault in the area, officials said.

The department’s tactical team and many other officers are on scene, police said.
