A man has tragically died at a bank holiday family funfair after sustaining severe head injuries in an incident involving a fairground ride.
Emergency services, including police, paramedics and the air ambulance service, were called to Spanish City Summer Funfair in Whitley Bay, near Newcastle, on Saturday afternoon.
Despite the best efforts of medical staff, and an off-duty medic who provided assistance at the scene, a fairground worker in his 20s has sadly passed away, confirmed Northumbria Police tonight.
