DETROIT -- Drew Sommers looks more like a guy who’d knock back a beer and tell you about the titles he won as an all-district nose tackle back in high school.
But Sommers throws a baseball really hard -- with his left arm -- which is why he’s now in the Detroit Tigers bullpen instead of sitting next to you at Buffalo Wild Wings.
Sommers said his future career path was set at age 3.
“Ever since my dad saw I was a lefty throwing the baseball, he said, ‘You’re going to be a pitcher and you don’t have a choice in the matter,’” Sommers said with a smile. “But I’m happy with it. I enjoy baseball, every minute of it. Being on the field, the crowd, the fans, the teammates, the camaraderie, it’s amazing. There’s no better job.”
