FLINT, MI -- A Flint church has canceled its upcoming service due to a safety threat.

Peoples Church of Flint canceled its Sunday, Aug. 24, service after the pastor found a comment on the church’s social media page talking about firearms.

Rev. Matthew Hogue-Smith had been scrolling through Facebook when he saw the comment replying to a previous post from the church that talked about a firearm, he told MLive. Church officials immediately reported the comment to the Flint Police Department, he said.

“We want to take these threats seriously, even if nothing comes from it,” Hogue-Smith said.

The comment was made just hours after the post was made on social media, around 7 a.m. on Friday.

Peoples Church of Flint is located at 503 Garland St. in Flint.
