Syracuse, N.Y. — The Onondaga County Health Department will offer free lead testing for children this week in Syracuse.

Testing will be held Thursday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Peace Inc. Eastside Family Resource Center, the county said. The event is part of the health department’s lead poisoning prevention program.

Lead exposure can cause learning, growth and behavioral problems in children, according to health officials.

All children should be tested at ages 1 and 2, but children of other ages can also be tested. Parents can call the health department to determine if their child needs a test.
