LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - A Louisville native recently decided to breathe new life into an old building in the Portland neighborhood. Now, he hopes his new business, Brolly Bodega, will become a community staple.

“(Portland is) a desert,” said the bodega’s owner, Raymont Forney.

Forney has lived in the Portland neighborhood for about 20 years, but said it’s not what it used to be.

“It had multiple bakeries down here, meeting places, you know, bars, food, little spots,” said Forney. “Then over the years, it’s kind of... I guess times changed.”

So, Forney wanted to be a part of bringing that community feel back to the neighborhood.

He opened Brolly Bodega in late July, a place where people can stop in for a cooked meal, snacks or other essentials.
