LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - A Louisville Metro Police detective is being treated for burns and smoke inhalation after evacuating residents from a burning apartment building on Saturday.
According to LMPD, on Saturday, August 23, at around 1:07 p.m., officers responded to a fire at the 550 Apartments.
An LMPD detective saw the heavy smoke and panicking apartment residents before first responders had arrived, and entered the building to evacuate residents before firefighters arrived.
The detective was taken to UofL Hospital and is being treated for smoke inhalation and minor burns.
After arriving at the scene, the Louisville Fire Department was successfully able to get the fire under control.
